Ocean cruise lines go everywhere in the the world throughout the whole year. They are similar to a five star hotel. The size of these ships vary from small yachts to giant vessels which carry often about three thousand passangers. The contract of the crew usually lasts for six months.
River cruise ships are going on European Rivers such as the Danube or Rhone and between Amsterdam and Budapest. There are about 80-200 passangers on these ships and the crew's number is about 35-85. The contracts last for a season, usually from March to November every year. The crewmember shares his/her cabin with one or two other crew members. Meals are provided. Everyone who is planning to work on a river ship must have a good command of the English or German knowledge and have previous working experience.
Working time
You are expected to work seven days a week, about 10-12 hours every day. There are no free days but maybe some free hours you can relax.

Cook
- cook certificate + experience + good language knowledge
- basic salary: 800-1650€
Waiter/Waitress (Chef de Rang)
- experience + excellent language knowledge
- basic salary: 700-1300€
Assistant Waiter/Waitress (Commis de Rang)
- experience + good language knowledge
- basic salary: 700€
Bartender
- experience gained on a ship or abroad+ good language knowledge
- basic salary: 900-1500€
Barwaiter/Barwaitress
- experience + good language knowledge
- basic salary: 700-800 €
Cabin Stewardess
- 4-6 months chambermaid experience + good language knowledge
- basic salary: 650-1200 €
Kitchen Crew / Cleaner
- to be able to carry heavy items, conversational level of English or German
- basic salary: 650-950 €
Receptionist
- experience gained in a hotel reception, knowledge of softwares like Fidelio + excellent language knowledge
- basic salary: 900-1200 €
Night Auditor
- relevant experience + good language knowledge
- basic salary: 700-1200 €
Pastry Chef
- pastry diploma + experience + good language knowledge
- basic salary :1000-1650 €
Baker
- baker diploma + experience + good language knowledge
- basic salary: 1000-1300 €
